Escuela de Manejo en Su Biblioteca

In 2019, Governor Phil Murphy signed into law new ID requirements that expanded access to driver's licenses and Non-Driver ID to approximately 800,000 NJ Residents. Benefiting most from the change in legislation were undocumented residents, survivors of domestic violence and those reentering society after an encounter with the criminal system. Since the implementation began in 2021, few statewide efforts to ensure language accessible driver's education have been put forth. The lack of accurate information and support has led to significant fraud and scam. Some Red Bank residents have paid anywhere between a few hundred to thousands of dollars to obtain a driver's license. Currently only one other Spanish language driver's education course is taught by a nonprofit in Elizabeth, NJ. Providing access to driver's licenses makes the road safer for everyone, keeps families together and makes communities safer, benefits a large and diverse group of people, stabilizes insurance premiums, promotes healthier communities and increases state and local revenues. Ultimately providing this class is at the core of what libraries do and that is to build communities.
