Historic Maps In Public Libraries

This program will explore the use and preservation of historic maps in public libraries. The first part of the program will focus on the use of maps in reference work, why to collect maps, and how maps aren't just aesthetic materials but practical items. The second half of the program will focus on maps from a preservation, care and digitization perspective. Included will be a discussion of the Chester Library's conservation and handling of an 1860 NJ topographic wall map and what it took to make it accessible in-person and online.
